The Secret Garden Ashford Wedding Venue
The Secret Garden wedding venue, offers a charming and refreshingly quirky setting for a wedding. It comprises a restaurant and garden and is situated on the secluded Mersham Hatch Estate near Ashford. Entry is via a lovely cobbled courtyard which affords a fine view of the main building - a coach house, lovingly restored in 2006, with a small clocktower perched upon it. The building has a charming interior, and hosts a renowned restaurant serving local, seasonal food, and a series of large double doors open on to a south-facing covered terrace and beautiful Victorian walled garden. This includes a large kitchen garden which grows seasonal fruit, vegetables and flowers and a network of gravelled paths and box hedging. Ceremonies can be held outside under the gazebo or inside a converted greenhouse known as The Glass House. The wedding breakfast can be served in the coach house, which hosts up to 70 guests, or a marquee can be erected in the garden to host up to 120 guests. Food is served on vintage china lending a lovely English garden charm to proceedings.
Charlotte and Freddie got married on a beautiful balmy day in July - the light was absolutely fantastic. I joined Charlotte and her bridesmaids at their home for some preparation shots and then moved on to the venue to photograph Freddie and his entourage. The ceremony was held under the gazebo and this was followed by Pimms on the lawn. We staged a few group shots and then we strolled round the grounds for their bride and groom portrait session. The garden was in full bloom and looked absolutely beautiful. One of the pleasures of photographing at venues with mature gardens is that they're forever changing and offer new photographic opportunities each time. The couple then joined their guests in The Glass House for a wonderful picnic-style wedding breakfast. This was followed by some short toasts and then everyone wandered back out into the gardens to be joined by the evening guests. The day concluded with the cake cut and first dance.
